They Just Wanna Be Loved
I feel sorry for all the children who are living life without it.
This issue is a sad one. I just had to write about it.
For all those lonely children, who are lonely, not by choice.
I thought that I would speak for them. These children need a
voice.
The ones who end up criminal, behind our jail room doors.
The ones who end up addicts or who walk the street as whores.
The problem goes back, years ago, to when they were just small.
They only wanted something that they rarely got at all.
I see it happen every day. My heart breaks every time.
These empty little children, who are victims of this crime.
To not be loved or wanted or, at least, to feel that way.
These little ones God gave to us are forced to dearly pay.
It’s amazing what a tight held hand or simple hug will do.
The power in the simple phrase, “My child—I love you.”
A kiss for reassurance with kind words that build esteem.
Concern for what they want from life and what it is they dream.
A reasonable set of boundaries; a consistent set of rules.
To raise these children proper. These are most essential tools.
Praise and admiration; recognizing each good deed.
Encouraging them every step, to see that they succeed.
Not constant condemnation and the always putting down.
The yelling and the screaming with the disappointed frown.
The words you say, that hurt them. scar them badly from inside.
If you’re not good at loving them, it’s time at least you tried.
A lot of what’s important is at stake, so heed my tale.
A parent is a job which is important we don’t fail.
We only get one chance at it. It’s not too late for change.
For some it will just comes naturally. For others oddly strange
The payoff is the greatest, if you do your job correct.
You’ll earn your child’s love and even more you’ll gain respect.
They’ll grow up to be happy cause you gave them what they craved.
Your children will be well turned out. Well liked and well
behaved.
And you can hold your head up high for you have done your deed.
As a parent, here’s a job where it’s essential you succeed.
For to lose your kids affection and to watch them poorly fail.
Strung out on drugs; get pregnant young, or end up going to jail.
How your kids turn out is how a parent, you did score.
Think how close you are to them. Could they be loved some more?
If love does not come natural, it’s time that it is learned.
Just do your best at giving it and pray that it’s returned.
